Before you ask

The things people actually write in about.

Which coco fiber, nutrients or kit fits my Auk?

Every seed fits every Auk — Auk 1, Mini 1 and Mini 2. Seeds are never model-specific, because Auk is an open system.

Coco fiber, nutrients, the chili & tomato kits, light rods and big plant pots are model-specific — each card says which, right next to the price.

Own an Auk Mini 1 or Mini 2? Their parts live on the Mini shop page.

What is in the refill kit, and why is it cheaper?

Coco fiber for every pot and a season of Grow and Flavour nutrients in one box. The Auk Mini 2 kit adds a fresh top layer.

What can I grow — and can I use my own seeds?

Anything that sprouts. Herbs and salad leaves are the easy, reliable win; chili and tomato work but want light, warmth and patience — and the big plant pots.

And yes: your own seeds, supermarket packets, or a cutting from a herb pot all work. There is no proprietary pod and there never will be.

How long does a packet last, and how often do I replace the fiber?

A packet usually fills two pots, so two or three sowings. Unopened seed keeps about two years.

Coco fiber gets replaced when you start a new crop — for most people every 12 to 20 weeks.

My seeds didn't germinate. What went wrong?

Usually one of three things: seed buried too deep, fiber that dried out in the first week, or a variety that is simply slow.

Cress, sorrel, mizuna, watercress, mint, oregano and lemon balm need light to sprout — lay them on top and don't cover them.

Nothing after four weeks? Write to us and a replacement goes out the same day.

My rods are too short for tomatoes and tall basil.

Fair, and our most common complaint. There are taller light rods for both Minis in the accessories above, and the big plant pots give roots the depth that fruiting plants need.
